Updates for January, 2022

New features

Visualize typical pitch range

On the graph showing your pitch, you can now choose to display typical pitch ranges for male and female voices.

Synchronized zooming

While viewing the app on a desktop, zooming is now synchronized across all graphs. We plan to add similar functionality for mobile phone and tablet versions.

Disable gender estimation

You can now choose to disable gender estimations from being made while you record audio. This can be useful because the algorithm to estimate gender is expensive to compute and you may not always want gender estimation for your audio, so disabling it can greatly reduce battery usage.

Improvements

Added a loading screen on app startup

Previously, when you first loaded the app, it seemed to freeze up. This is because the app is setting up the algorithms that analyze your audio. We added a loading screen that is displayed during this process to improve user experience.

Added a loading icon

Once you’re done recording audio or select a previously saved recording, the app does some processing which may take a few seconds. To improve user experience we added an animated icon at the bottom while it does its processing.

Bug fixes

Major issue fixed for Safari and Edge

We fixed an issue where on certain versions of Safari and Edge the gender predictions were not working at all. Regardless, we recommend that you do not use Safari.

That’s all for now. We have more planned work in the upcoming months, so stay tuned.
